Editor's Notes:

China's two sessions of the year, the country's most important political event, opened on Thursday after a two-month delay due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Against the backdrop of epidemic prevention and control as a new normal, the two sessions will demonstrate to the world that China has achieved a decisive phased victory in the battle against COVID-19.

As a tradition, the two sessions will invite foreign ambassadors and diplomats in China as guests.

The Global Times interviewed ambassadors from six countries. They expressed their biggest interest and expectations toward this year's two sessions.

Edward Boateng, Ambassador of Ghana to China

This year's two sessions are being held during an unprecedented time in human history, a time our world seems ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

My expectations for this year's session will be to see the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People's Congress (NPC) come up with a detailed and workable global cooperative framework to tackle issues of global concern such as COVID-19 and climate change.

At a time where there seems to be a test of leadership globally, I expect China, as a global major power to stand up as the conscience of leadership and rally all countries constructively around common goals.

I would very much like to see the two sessions focus on new ways of thinking and problem solving, collective and individual responsibility on the state level as well as on the non-state actors' level.

The two sessions offer the unique opportunity to see Chinese politics at play on a bigger stage. It also presents me the chance to appreciate the inner workings of China's governance system and its relationship to the rest of the world. China's two sessions for a decade now have crossed the realm of domestic chatter into international chatter. It has become the meeting or stage to see what China is up to, how it wishes to engage with the world and its timelines to these global engagements and plans. It provides an insight into the thoughts and perspectives of China's top political actors; a signal for China's global partners and countries it has relations with to predict China's actions and an opportunity to shape plans and policies thereof. The two sessions have gained a place in global political history, and as a diplomat that is crucial and worthy to observe keenly.
